Disaster Team Almost Misses Disaster Season
Filing this story under “rock stations who rock”:
In a surprise move late last week, the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board shut down the “recreational” E-League Softball league due to lack of interest. Only three teams had signed up for the league which was called out in promotional materials by having three asterisk, distinguishing it from the other E-League nights as the one that was “recreational.” The teams: Target, Minnegasco and the celebrated B-Squad were thus left to compete for two slots in another league.
The competition was rough, but in the end Target and the B-Squaders prevailed. They will bring the spirit of recreation to the Wednesday night gathering which includes such seasoned veterans as The Sportsmen, a set of Wells Fargo teams and the team formerly known as the Transit team formerly known as the Handicabs.
“I'm just glad we'll be able to play this year,” said team administrator Bricker. “Otherwise it would be hard to explain all the trips to the bar. Plus, the uniforms are really slick.”
At the risk of creating too much of an expectation among softball colleagues and our many opponents, the B-Squad is rolling out a theme this year. It is the theme of “recreation” which is what we believe E-League softball is all about. In addition to playing style, disposition, and outfield chatter, the B-Squad is rolling out a special “three star” logotype that will remind friend and foe alike that even if we are playing in the league not called out for recreation, we represent the spirit of this idea.
So, plan on Wednesdays this year folks. Practice is on Wednesday as well...let the games begin!
